Soil to Table: The Land Gardeners - THAMES & HUDSON
Recipes for Healthy Soil and Food
Henrietta Courtauld, Bridget Elworthy

Reflecting on the link between the health of our soils and what we eat, Soil to Table is filled with ideas and wisdom about how to care for your soil and includes recipes from chef Lulu Cox

Soil is a delicate ecosystem made up of minerals, water, air, plant roots, organic matter, insects and a complex web of micro-organisms. We rely on its health for our food and our future - just as caring for the gut flora within our intestines is vital to human wellbeing, so too is caring for the microbes in the soil the essence of soil health.

Following on from their bestselling book The Land Gardeners: Cut Flowers, authors and gardeners Bridget Elworthy and Henrietta Courtauld explore the full cycle of soil to table. From the microbes in the soil to the seasoning in your dishes, each plays an important role in contributing to a delicious and nutritious meal.

With recipes from chef Lulu Cox and paintings by Nancy Cadogan, Soil to Table is a celebration of the garden and an informative guide to cultivating healthy soil in order to produce glorious food.

About the Author
Bridget Elworthy and Henrietta Courtauld both trained and worked as lawyers before studying garden design. Henrietta went on to work with landscape and garden designer Tom Stuart-Smith and then started her own garden design business. Bridget went on to study horticulture in London before spending three years back in her native New Zealand, where she grew peonies on the family farm, Craigmore, before moving to Wardington Manor. As The Land Gardeners, both Henrietta and Bridget now specialise in the design of
productive gardens - particularly walled gardens. They have combined forces to research soil health and its importance as the source of plant, animal, human and, ultimately, planetary health. They launched The Farm Project to make high-quality, microbially rich compost on a large scale, with the goal of empowering growers and farmers to do the same. Their book The Land Gardeners: Cut Flowers was published by Thames & Hudson in 2019.

Yves Saint Laurent Catwalk: The Complete Haute Couture Collection - THAMES & HUDSON
The Complete Haute Couture Collections 1962-2002
Suzy Menkes, Olivier Flaviano, Aurélie Samuel, Jéromine Savignon, Lola Fournier, Alice Coulon-Saillard, Domitille Éble, Laurence Neveu, Leslie Veyrat

The first comprehensive overview of Yves Saint Laurent’s haute couture collections, presented through original catwalk photography

Founded by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé in 1961, shortly after the young couturier left his post at the helm of Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent would soon become one of the most successful and influential haute couture houses in Paris. Introducing Le Smoking, the first tuxedo suit for women, in 1966, Saint Laurent also presented iconic art-inspired creations, from Mondrian dresses to precious Van Gogh embroidery and the famous Ballets Russes collection.

This definitive publication opens with a concise history of the house, followed by a brief biographical profile of Yves Saint Laurent, before exploring the collections themselves, organized chronologically. Each collection is introduced by a short text unveiling its influences and highlights, and illustrated with a gallery of carefully curated catwalk images. These showcase hundreds of spectacular clothes, details, accessories, beauty looks and set designs – and, of course, the top fashion models who wore them on the runway. A rich reference section concludes the book.

The Most Beautiful Villages of Provence - THAMES & HUDSON
Michael Jacobs

A tribute to Provence, its villages and its spirit of place which continues to entrance visitors

The Greeks, the Romans, the barbarians of the North and the Moors have all left their traces in its villages and small towns, from the hills and mountains of the Lubéron to the villages perchés of the Alpes-Maritimes.

It is in smaller communities that the true Provençal spirit can be found: in sunlight falling across the tightly grouped terracotta roofs, or in the velvety shade in an ancient square – the country of Marcel Pagnol and Jean de Florette. Such scenes come alive here in Hugh Palmer’s radiant photographs and Michael Jacobs’ evocative accounts.

The book opens with the villages of the Vaucluse and the Bouches-du-Rhône then moves east to the Var and eventually the mountains of the Alpine départements, drawing out the special characteristics of each region. Here are the tranquil villages of the centre, but in stark contrast are the fortified hill villages of the east, perched on crests or terraced along the mountainside.

New Map Italy: Unforgettable Experiences for the Discerning Traveller - THAMES & HUDSON
Unforgettable Experiences for the Discerning Traveller
Herbert Ypma

From the unusual to the spectacular, the ultimate visual guide to the finest hotels and travel experiences Italy has to offer

In this age of low-cost flights and easy travel, how do you avoid the crowds and find the hidden gems? Expert globe trotter and travel photographer Herbert Ypma guides you through an alternative map of Italy to reveal those hard-to-find places that still hold something special.

The experiences and tips that he maps out across the length and breadth of Italy fall into four key categories. ‘Staying in Character’ features thirty-five places to stay, from the grand to the eccentric, all embodying the soul and character of their setting – whether it’s sleeping next to a sloshing canal in Venice, dozing under the plume of Etna’s active volcano or experiencing monastic silence over dinner in Umbria. ‘Eclectic Experiences’ surveys twenty stand-out experiences, from jumping off the cliffs near Otranto to swimming the walls of Dionysius in Ortigia, and from exploring the forgotten farmland of Sicily’s interior to finding the best gelati in Rome. ‘Legend for Lunch’ points you in the direction of the most authentic places to eat, and ‘Convincing Context’ surveys twenty experiences enhanced by nuggets of history.

Toilet Paper: Issue 9 - THAMES & HUDSON
Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari

Toiletpaper is an artists’ magazine created and produced by Maurizio Cattelan and Pierpaolo Ferrari, born out of a passion or obsession they both cultivate: images. The magazine contains no text; each picture springs from an idea, often simple, and through a complex orchestration of people it becomes the materialization of the artists’ mental outbursts. Since the first issue, in June 2010, Toilet Paper has created a world that displays ambiguous narratives and a troubling imagination. It combines the vernacular of commercial photography with twisted narrative tableaux and surrealistic imagery. The result is a publication that is itself a work of art which, through its accessible form as a magazine, and through its wide distribution, challenges the limits of the contemporary art economy.
