Raw material

The sardine petinga is the youngest species of sardine (Sardina pilchardus walbaum), with a size between 11 and 14 centimetres.

They are blue fish, easily recognisable by the silver colour of their scales, which they use as a defence method, reflecting sunlight entering the sea to blind their predators.

This fish has one of the highest nutritional values due to its high levels of calcium, iodine, proteins, omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins.

Preserve preparation

Minerva petingas are selected and canned by hand, adding only a coating of olive oil to give the preserves more flavour and texture. They are faithful to the traditional Portuguese manufacturing tradition, being pre-cooked before canning.

To finish the process, they are sterilised at a temperature of 118ºC, guaranteeing the conservation of the product.

Canned in 120g tin format.

Conservation and harmonization

Minerva canned fish should be stored in a dry place without the need to put them in the refrigerator. They are ready to eat, no preparation is necessary. Once opened, if they are not entirely used, it is recommended that they are kept in a suitable container in the refrigerator for consumption within a maximum of 48 hours.

They are best eaten at room temperature as a snack, with a salad or in a sandwich for an easy and nutritious lunch.
