A Graffiti Life
Author André Saraiva, Contributions by Virgil Abloh and MAGDA DANYSZ and Jeffrey Deitch and Glenn O'Brien

Author André Saraiva, Contributions by Virgil Abloh and MAGDA DANYSZ and Jeffrey Deitch and Glenn O'Brien
The first and much-anticipated book by visual artist, club creator, and nightlife impresario André Saraiva presents his wide range of works, from street art and contemporary art to graphic design, photography, and his influences on fashion and nightlife.

Street-cool visual artist-cum-nightlife guru, André Saraiva, whose life dovetails into graffiti subculture, chic jet-setting, and the fashion world, presents an autobiographical visual diary of sorts, a revealing window into the worlds he inhabits. This visual journey is an interactive and striking object itself, with either a vibrant pink cloth- or blue cloth-cover (randomly selected), Saraiva’s distinctive handwriting in foil, and seven pop-ups he designed.

Chances are that while you’ve been strolling through the streets of Paris, London, New York, or Los Angeles, you may have caught a glimpse of Saraiva’s signature graffiti of Mr. A on a random street wall. Or you may have seen him in the Banksy film, Exit Through the Gift Shop; spied him in the front rows of the Paris Fashion Week shows; or seen him at one of his many chic nightclubs. Graffiti Life is a never-before-seen look at the artist’s many spheres through which he effortlessly moves: street culture, contemporary art, graphic design, photography, fashion, and nightlife. It follows Saraiva’s art/life trajectory, and includes his Instagram-worthy tags on the streets of Paris; countless silk-screened posters; paintings and sculpture; creative collaborations with Chanel, Louis Vuitton, and Colette, and more.

Art in the Streets - RIZZOLI
Author Jeffrey Deitch, Contributions by Roger Gastman and Fab 5 Freddy and Greg Tate and Carlo McCormick
The most comprehensive book to survey the colorful history of graffiti and street art movements internationally.

Forty years ago, graffiti in New York evolved from elementary mark-making into an important art form. By the end of the 1980s, it had been documented in books and films that were seen around the world, sparking an international graffiti movement.

This original edition, now back in print after several years, considers the rise of New York graffiti and the international scenes it inspired--from Los Angeles to São Paulo to Paris to Tokyo--as well as earlier and parallel movements: the break dancing and rap music of hip-hop; the graffiti used by Chicano gangs to mark their territory; the skateboarding culture that began in Southern California. Expertly researched, beautifully illustrated, and featuring contributions by many of the most significant curators, writers, and artists involved in the graffiti world, this now classic volume is an in-depth examination of this seminal movement.

Barbie(tm): The World Tour - RIZZOLI
By Margot Robbie & Andrew Mukamal

For the press tour following the record-breaking release of Greta Gerwig's award-winning, acclaimed Barbie movie, producer and star Margot Robbie and her stylist Andrew Mukamal immersed themselves in some of Barbie's most iconic outfits and curated vintage pieces, then approached designers, from Giorgio Armani to Donatella Versace, to create looks inspired by the doll-size originals. Many of these looks were not seen as the official Barbie press tour was cut short--so Margot and Andrew worked with renowned fashion photographer Craig McDean to shoot her in the looks exactly as they were curated: Schiaparelli in Los Angeles, Vivienne Westwood in London, vintage Chanel with matching Streamline luggage at the airport, and beyond.

Accompanying McDean's sumptuous photography are original Barbie dolls from the period, a treasure trove of rare materials from Mattel's Barbie fashion archives, and the designers' sketches and Polaroids from fittings, layered into evocative collage by art director Fabien Baron. With text by Margot Robbie and Andrew Mukamal, as well as handwritten contributions from the designers behind the looks (from Olivier Rousteing and Michelle Ochs to Manolo Blahnik and Jeremy Scott), this unique book blends the serious chic of high fashion with the serious fun of Barbie world--the dolls, the history, and the style that have captured imaginations for 65 years.

BARBIE(TM) and associated trademarks and trade dress are owned by, and used under license from, Mattel. (c)2024 Mattel.

Fresh Fly Fabulous : 50 Years of Hip Hop Style - RIZZOLI
Author Elizabeth Way and Elena Romero, Foreword by Slick Rick

On a hot summer night in August of 1973, DJ Kool Herc and his sister, Cindy, put on a “back to school jam” in the rec room of their apartment block at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the West Bronx. The rest is history. The birth of hip hop rippled out across the globe, influencing music and fashion for generations.

Fresh Fly Fabulous: 50 Years of Hip Hop Style draws on the experiences and memories of those who were there, from a foreword by Slick Rick, to interviews with Disco Fever club owner Sal Abbatiello and designers Dapper Dan and April Walker, to chapters from Vibe stylist Emil Wilbekin and former editor of The Source Kim Osorio. Topics cover the range of hip hop’s influential style over the past half century, tracing the evolution from early hip hop style, born of aspiration, individuality, and practicality to contemporary fashion steeped in luxury brands.

Hip hop style is a local story, told through spotlights on Times Square as an early fashion space, as well as an international phenomenon, shown in the prominence of hip hop fashion leaders on red carpets. Inventiveness, the art of the remix, and a diverse set of influences are consistent themes in sections that examine hip hop style from hair and nails to shoes and sneakers.

Fresh Fly Fabulous is the definitive source for hip hop style, brought to life by the groundbreaking photographers who captured it firsthand, including Janette Beckman, Jamel Shabazz, and Ernie Paniccioli.

Jean-Michel Basquiat
- Accompanies a major double exhibition on Jean-Michel Basquiat and Egon Schiele - two artists that died too young but created masses of work over the course of a decade - at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, from 3rd October 2018 to 4th January 2019
- Comprises drawings, objects and paintings, gathered from private collections and museums all over the world

In 2018 the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, is hosting exhibitons on two of the greatest artists of the 20th century - Egon Schiele, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Both exhibitions have the same curator, and are taking place at the same time. The shows illustrate exactly what it is that linked the two artists: line, and the use of expressive force.

This, the catalog of the Basquiat exhibition, labelled "the definitive exhibition" by its curator, brings together 120 of the artist's most important masterpieces, sourced from interational museums and private collections. With the astonishing radicalness of his artistic practice, Basquiat renewed the concept of art with enduring impact. This Basquiat retrospective centres on the idea of Basquiat's unique energetic line, his use of words, symbols, and how he integrates collage in his paintings, sculptures, objects, and large-scale drawings.

The catalog includes texts by great authors, including Paul Schimmel who tells of his meeting with Basquiat in California; Francesco Pellizzi who knew Basquiat well and has not written about him for a long time; and Okwui Enwezor who talks about the Afro American identity.
